ok now this exactly what i need right now. you know how music helps you get up, gets you going, makes you wanna make music... i heard this curtis mayfield sample just a short while ago when tha chill used it for mc ren (nwa), normally i can`t stand the second song i hear the same sample in, but this time it`s different. for a moment you think curtis mayfield came back to earth again, but it`s just bilal doing his greatness. this here is the westcoast version i was talking about (dope track aswell):
Tha Chill & Mc Ren - Have that money rite
solo, remember the diamond district concert in jena? so far the best concert this year. yU`s before taxes album drops 14th of april, yeah. well i am off to the studio. peace jimmy
The Life Line is a series inspired by an event that took place in “BLACK HOLLYWOOD” AKA 9th & U Streets in the Nations Capital, Washington, D.C. Circa mid’ 1990′s Era. Blackberry Jones one of the Beatsmith’s that was raise through the realms of The original Life Line and it’s likes bring to you a series of INNOVATIVE Virtual Collaborations. Blackberry Jones explains "It was an event in which cats would bring their machines of choice Loaded up with samples and we would create beats live on the spot and all else vibing would be improvised as well." So, Blackberry decided to bring the innovation of The Life Line to the world via the web as he is joined by YU of Diamond District for Installment 1!

A Diamond District concert is one of the reasons why I still love HipHop...It becomes more and more a thing that lives in this bright box we fool around with half the day. Let`s take it outside. Use the box to get people to attend a show. That´s my HipHop message for today. yU`s "Before Taxes" album is out now. Get it jimmy

Oddisee: As a musician, life is often lived on the road. Each city leaves its imprint on the artist as they develop their craft. Touring, recording, and keeping up with friends and family took Oddisee beyond his hometown of Washington DC to Australia, Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America. From cities like East Africa's Khartoum in Sudan, to cosmopolitan jaunts like Paris & Tokyo. The influence of these travels can be heard on every one of the 24 tracks included on "Traveling Man".Each track was produced while Oddisee stayed in the city it was titled after. The result is a 24 city sonic tour of the world. Oddisee sees the world, so that you can hear it. credits (released 26 January 2010)
Thinkloud: Droppin' Mirrors is a musical cross-section of past collaborations, as well as a glimpse of projects to come. But what makes this compilation special? The tracks featured are no mere licensed releases, nor are they a "Best Of" of ThinkLoud's back catalogue. Droppin' Mirrors contains almost nothing but exclusive productions. These are the natural result of joint shows with, and tours managed by ThinkLoud's DJ Conikt across Germany and Europe. We managed to get artists like Aloe Blacc (Stones Throw), Kev Brown (Up Above), Grand Agent (Superrappin') and Oddisee&TrekLife (Diamond District) on board. At the same time, young and talented artists like Portformat, Shuanise, Fid Mella, and others have found their way onto the album. They embody the very sound we are aiming for.A major portion of the songs were composed by in-house producer Stroe, and recorded together with the guest artists in Berlin. The result is a genre-crossing product that transcends its roots in Rap, Experimental, and neo-Soul.Droppin' Mirrors sets sail towards electronically fragmented, soulful beats, deconstructivist arrangements, and unconventional ideas to let a charm of its own flourish.
yU, Diamond District and Mello Music Group member has this nice Beat Tape give away for your evening. Raw, filthy, dusty and psyched out from time to time. 23 lovely sample-based tracks (and interludes). //Complete stream and download after the jump...
Another good track of the "Before Taxes" album which is in stores. Support! Soul Brother Nr. 2 on here too. Nice. The 2dopeboys put up a couple of the "Before Taxes" Instrumentals in form of a zip file. You can get it here Yeah. Jimmy

gute Review von whentheyreminisce.com : Hip Hop in 2009, at least in my humble opinion, was the “Year Of The D (Detroit)”, as releases from Now On (”Tomorrow Already”), Buff 1 (”There’s Only One”) and 14KT’s debut instrumental opus, “The Golden Hour” flooded the eardrums of Hip Hop without fair warning, captivating audiences with their signature, sonic boom. However, 2009 has most definitely been the year of “the D” once again…..except this time around it’s another “D”, D.C. First it was the arrival of the collaborative effort from D.C.’s Oddisee, yU and XO aka Diamond District with their FREE release “In The Ruff” that opened my eyes and ears to Hip Hop’s new “hotbed”. Next up was the ridiculously cohesive effort from yU “Before Taxes” (one of the top two or three releases of the year IMO), yet offered up as another free gift for listener’s yearning for a return to Hip Hop’s yesteryear. Finally, XO’s “RealMATIC” which was yet another FREE LP, with it’s heavy Go-Go influence that made me say “Wale who?”. Now, with last week’s release of Oddisee’s “Odd Autumn” that has be wondering just how much dopeness are these cats gonna’ unleash before they start charging us for it! I mean, damn, the aforementioned releases are better than the majority of actual albums that have dropped thus far in 2009."continue reading"
Vollständigkeitshalber die vorrigen Releases aus der Serie. Das neueste Werk "Odd Winter" aus der Serie kann man hier erklicken.
Don`t know why people have to redo the songs of this classic album, but then again our beloved three kats from the DMV give a pretty good reason why you should at least try. Von Pea and Spec Boogie, who I think are just as good, do not convince me at all with their version of "Shimmy Shimmy Ya". Incase you really think that this could be of any interest to you, check it out here. Peace. jimmy
The last Episode of "Oddisee's" "Seasons" announcements."Odd Spring" is soulful and the right Soundtrack for the Spring,we still waiting for in germany. We are lucky guys, because we met "Oddisee" and his "Diamond District" partners in february and he is really easeful and considered. That's what "Odd Spring" represents to me is the same.An balanced and stunning arranged Mixtape which benefits to the sound.Great work Dude!
