Audio: Jaylib vs. J Rocc - J Dilla + Madlib + J Rocc

Stonesthrow Post

The year was 2003. J Dilla and Madlib had just wrapped up their album Champion Sound, recording as Jaylib, with Dilla then still in Detroit and Madlib doing all his work from his bomb shelter studio in Los Angeles. J Rocc - who would later become the third member of Jaylib, on the turntables for each of the shows the guys did together - put together this mixtape of Dilla, Madlib and Jaylib songs, as well as some of their sources, essentially telling the story of this group.

Eine schmackhafte Erscheinung auf den Teller der Labelgeschenke."J Dilla + Madlib + J Rocc*s" "Jaylib vs. J Rocc" ist eine Reise durch den klassischen Madlib JayDee Sound.

Audio: J. Rocc - Play This Too // 12"-inch // Stonesthrow

J Rocc - Play This Too by stonesthrow

We have here is a 12-inch EP from J Rocc, the first sounds of what will be his first album of original material, Some Cold Rock Stuf, coming in 2011. The EP is “Play This Too” - title track, bonus beats, backed with two other tracks.

J. Rocc is known as a founding member of the Beat Junkies, long-time DJs for Madlib (including the third member of Jaylib), and for our money, the best hip hop DJ in the world. But we've been asked what his own album is – a mixtape? A DJ album? A beats album? The answer is none of the above. Play this and find out ...

This new stonesthrow release is fresh, funky and fantastic. J. Rocc to the fullest, hard banging funk drums and a power boost for any dance floor. This is a must have.

Audio: Jaylib - Louder (Blast Your Radio Theme) // MP3

Jaylib - Louder (Blast Your Radio Theme) by stonesthrow

Download: Jaylib - Louder MP3

From the Madlib Medicine Show #11: Low Budget High Fi Music here is a track from Madlib & J Dilla from their never-realized second album. Jaylib was formed in 2002 as Madlib & Dilla recorded separately in Los Angeles and Detroit. Their one album, Champion Sound, was released in 2003.  When J Dilla moved to Los Angeles, he, Madlib and J Rocc began doing shows together as Jaylib, performing together for the first time at the Madvillain record release party in April 2004. Madlib and Dilla collaborated primarily through the exchange of beat tapes, occasionally reworking each others material, or chopping the same beat in a kind of recorded call-and-response.

....we love it that way...

Strong Arm Steady & Madlib collab Stoney Jackson

The Madlib/Strong Arm Steady collaboration album Stoney Jackson came together in a flurry of creative energy over recent months. Prompted by Madlib’s stalwart DJ J.Rocc, who supplied SAS with 14 new Madlib beats CD, this album’s conception and delivery bear resemblance to the trajectory took by 2003’s Jaylib with J Dilla and 2004’s Madvillain with DOOM.

Audio: Massive Free Downloads from StonesThrow!

Massive Releases by our favorite Label: Stones Throw! As usual they provide a free mp3 of the good stuff.

Let´s start with something that totally fits my musical taste at the moment:
Now Again releases Dark Sunrise, "an anthology of Zambian godfather Rikki Ililonga and his groundbreaking band Musi-O-Tunya". African psychedelic funk-rock at it´s best. Musi-O-Tunya “Dark Sunrise”-A must have.

My second pick would be Dam-Funk´s Big Azz Girl. From his Adolescent Funk LP which features 14 tracks that he recorded between 1988 and 1992 -damn funky!

Than we have a new Aloe Blacc track: The Dark End of the Street. A Soul-Beauty he put together with "the Grand Scheme" backingband and released exlusiv for a Carhartt-Soul-Compilation.

Turning to the Rap side of things, we have a new supergroup: OhNo teamed up with Alchemist to follow the Jaylib concept: Gangrene “Chain Swinging” is the free track. Well, it isn´t as mindblowig as the release of "Offical".. but still good quality as you would expect from these guys. grimy.

A Shade lighter is the collaboration of AloeBlacc & MED: Where I'm From from the new 12-inch single. Too light for me.. both released better stuff in my opinion.

Seu Jorge, who´s been responsible for one of the nicest summer hits this year brings us a new coverversion: The Model (Joey Altruda Remix), that brings some brasilian flavour to our rainy winter days. A special video will be released during the day..

To Comlete the whole download marathon. Check also:
J Rocc - Play This Too from the new 12-inch single, Anika - Yang Yang from their upcoming debut album entirely produced by Portisheads own Geoff Barrow. To end with what we started: WITCH - Introduction from Zambia and Tirogo - Float from Nigerian. Both on Now Again.

Click through the links and download what you like. Big Ups to Stones Throw for their incredible output.
Enjoy -jones
