Massive Releases by our favorite Label: Stones Throw! As usual they provide a free mp3 of the good stuff.
Let´s start with something that totally fits my musical taste at the moment:
Now Again releases Dark Sunrise, "an anthology of Zambian godfather Rikki Ililonga and his groundbreaking band Musi-O-Tunya". African psychedelic funk-rock at it´s best. Musi-O-Tunya “Dark Sunrise”-A must have.
My second pick would be Dam-Funk´s Big Azz Girl. From his Adolescent Funk LP which features 14 tracks that he recorded between 1988 and 1992 -damn funky!
Than we have a new Aloe Blacc track: The Dark End of the Street. A Soul-Beauty he put together with "the Grand Scheme" backingband and released exlusiv for a Carhartt-Soul-Compilation.
Turning to the Rap side of things, we have a new supergroup: OhNo teamed up with Alchemist to follow the Jaylib concept: Gangrene “Chain Swinging” is the free track. Well, it isn´t as mindblowig as the release of "Offical".. but still good quality as you would expect from these guys. grimy.
A Shade lighter is the collaboration of AloeBlacc & MED: Where I'm From from the new 12-inch single. Too light for me.. both released better stuff in my opinion.
Seu Jorge, who´s been responsible for one of the nicest summer hits this year brings us a new coverversion: The Model (Joey Altruda Remix), that brings some brasilian flavour to our rainy winter days. A special video will be released during the day..
To Comlete the whole download marathon. Check also:
J Rocc - Play This Too from the new 12-inch single, Anika - Yang Yang from their upcoming debut album entirely produced by Portisheads own Geoff Barrow. To end with what we started: WITCH - Introduction from Zambia and Tirogo - Float from Nigerian. Both on Now Again.
Click through the links and download what you like. Big Ups to Stones Throw for their incredible output.
Enjoy -jones
