(Daptone Records!) Auf auf zum wunderschönen Play-Button.
The digital revolution of the last decade has unleashed creativity and talent of people in an unprecedented way, unleashing unlimited creative opportunities. But does democratized culture mean better art, film, music and literature or is true talent instead flooded and drowned in the vast digital ocean of mass culture? Is it cultural democracy or mediocrity? This is the question addressed by PressPausePlay, a documentary film containing interviews with some of the world's most influential creators of the digital era.
The trailer for Interplanetary Peace Talks, the hour long biographical documentary on Dudley Perkins aka Declaime, came out today. More Infos here..
This gives a nice insight look into how they recorded their latest project. Pretty well done documentary by photographer Robert Lupuski. If you want to see how Jay-Z "writes" his verses skip forward to the 8 minute mark.

Edit: Universal blocked this video because of a few seconds of two songs from the new album with talking over it. That`s just insane. Post will stay like this until Kanye starts screaming as loud as he can until they finally stop the ban.
I´m glad Gil Scott-Heron called some attention on his last record and made once again clear what a gifted & powerful poet and musician he was. He showed a last time that he still got it - putting all the struggle with life and drug abuse in the rear. He died 3 days ago 62 years old in a new yorker hospital.
The first time I recognised him was actual on a sample.. So here is a kmd for you + a late performance (probably not one of his best, but it´s touching that he did such a performance on a small stage in the park..) of the man himself.
For all who are interested in his lifework I recomend the documentary: Gil Scott-Heron – The godfather of rap.
rest in peace.

I just found this documentary. Can´t really tell if it´s worth watching, but it seems quite interesting:
"BEAUTIFUL LOSERS celebrates the spirit behind one of the most influential cultural moments of a generation
In the early 1990's a loose-knit group of likeminded outsiders found common ground at a little NYC storefront gallery. Rooted in the DIY (do-it-yourself) subcultures of skateboarding, surf, punk, hip hop & graffiti, they made art that reflected the lifestyles they led. Developing their craft with almost no influence from the "establishment" art world, this group, and the subcultures they sprang from, have now become a movement that has been transforming pop culture.
Starring a selection of artists who are considered leaders within this culture, Beautiful Losers focuses on the telling of personal stories. It speaks to themes of what happens when the outside becomes "in" as it explores the creative ethos connecting these artists and today's youth."
You might know the featured artists from some of the nicest coverart done in the 90´s. Some of them collaborated with musicians like the beastie boys, dj shadow or the mowax posse.. to me, it was at that time, the most thrilling thing to see how that kind of art and music perfectly merged together. I guess it wasn´t just me who got influenced by these foreword looking guys..
