Quiet Dawn - The First Day preview // New Dawn (feat. Oddisee)

‘The First Day’ is the debut album from French producer Will Galland, aka Quiet Dawn. Since signing to First Word in 2014, Quiet Dawn has released two singles, ‘New Dawn’ featuring Oddisee (featuring a remix from Eric Lau) and the more recent ‘Golden Moments’ featuring Sarah Gessler. These served as the perfect introduction to QD’s style, with jazz, hip-hop and broken beat influences combined to create something that is very much his own sound......

First Word: Yosi Horikawa – Wandering EP

As mentioned previously Yosi Horikawa’s debut EP for First Word Records is out now! Yosi Horikawa is a Japanese producer whose sound truly deserves the adjective original. This EP is the perfect introduction to his sound – from the ping-pong ball driven electronics of ‘Bubbles’ to the pounding atmospherics of the woodland influenced ‘Wandering’ Yosi’s idiosyncratic talent shines through.

Audio: United Virations - Galaxies not Ghettos

/>

A little while back touring England London was calling. Brixton to be precise - Yes, as we Germans on Voyages prefer to be mistaken for. We only found out way later, that London Afro Funk is sexy as hell. And we noticed a beautiful record shop located in Brixton Market United80. The day we went there, doors were locked, but luckily enough this young brass focused band, with it's members all in their early 20s managed to put their release also on renowned First Word Records and we purchased their beautiful debut black 12'' Galaxies not Ghettos. Word is Up! It's courage to make music, but to bring joy is divine. Catch up on this Ra inspired self-made jukebox. (Album stream right here)

Audio: Ye Mighty - Beyond Cairo // EP

The best introduction to the band is to hear some of their peerless music, so we're offering a free track from the album for you lucky people. 'Beyond' sums up the Ye Mighty sound perfectly: the influences of Galt McDermott, Axelrod, Ethiopiques, Mulatu and Fela Kuti are writ large across the track along with the duo's own unique modern twist.

Audio: Ariya Astrobeat Arkestra - Album Preview // First Word Records

Ariya Astrobeat Arkestra - Put Leg To Road (Stream)

More new music this week in the shape of the incomparable Ariya Astrobeat Arkestra. You're probably already familiar with their pounding cover of Crosstown Traffic as well as the driving Lost In Kinshasa. Ariya Astrobeat Arkestra formed in late 2007 when members of the kidkanevil live show and First Word stalwarts Homecut began a series of late night afrobeat sessions at Leeds Jazz venue Sela Bar. It was out of these jam sessions that the 8 piece band was born, combining their love of afrobeat with their appreciation of the space jazz pioneers of the 70’s and the free jazz trailblazers of the 60’s, coupled with a hefty nod towards James Brown.

This will be one of the hottest releases in the future. Finest Afro-Jazz meets Heavy-Funk, The Dancefloor is not a slice. Keep your eyes on First Word Records, This Fam is diggin dope artists in the deepest holes of the underground. Stay tuned for more. All relevant infos -> FWR.
