Audio: MoQuannum: Soul To Sole (The Goodwill Projects)

Glad we got this in our mailbox today. It's a great example of what can be done with today's software to pirate from the major labels.

The Goodwill Projects from the makers of www.acapellarchives.com (originally on Blogspot, but banned their, and found a new home at www.shalomsalon.de) put out a compilation, not quite sure if it is mash up or radio show. Nevertheless a nice blend and forget not to check out the Archive and become a creative remixer yourself.

MoQuannum: Soul To Sole is a kindred fusion of past and present. To say the least, Motown records echo some of the greatest arrangements in musical history.

Quannum - originally known as Solesides - is a like minded collection of artists that came together to pool their ideas and energy into something prolific and independent in contemporary music.

Most recently Guillermo Chiapa contributed to the "Yasiin Gaye" Project which was created by Amerigo Gazaway.

Video: Sole - I Think I'm Ben Bernanke

The song itself is about the history of America's long decline, beginning with the exploitation of the natives, slavery and the post world war 2 american dominance over the globe. Once the world was sucked dry, the entire system caved in on itself. We have been living on borrowed time since day one, with nothing left to plunder all we can do now is make radical changes or suffer the consequences. Ben Bernanke, the head of the Federal Reserve has overseen many of the disastrous policies that have lead to the destruction of the middle class and american labor.  The video depicts Ben Bernanke in the near future as a homeless drunk living in a shanty, or possibly an Occupied space in the United States.

Audio: Buck 65 - Dirtbike Series // nr.1,2&3

Buck65: I set out a task for myself, to put together three huge albums worth of music in three months - what I've been calling the 'Dirtbike' project. I managed to write and record approximately 70 songs. The three "albums" are each around an hour in length.I think of Dirtbike 1-3 as a woodshed demo project. But I've wanted to share this work with anyone who was interested in hearing it. They've floated around a bit here and there, but now I would like to share them directly with you.more via Buck65.net

Richard Terfry a.k.a. "Buck65" known from many releases around the Anticon family,is a pioneer in alternative and art addicted rap music scene, like names you may know, for example "Sole","Alias" or "Why".Im down with his music since many years,or better since my homie "Krizone" gave me the tip.The latest project of "Buck65" has been to make 3 Album series in 3 months, called "Dirtbike" with 3 issues. The project is finished, and if you ask me,this is sick in many parts. This Poet got connected with some great artists i following since many years like JEL, Doseone, Sage Francis or D-Styles.take a listen to Dirtbike part 1 at the player above. If you want all 3 parts go to buck65.net,put your email in,and you*ll receive a download link.Peace.

News: Press Release: Sole Leaves anticon. Records

Today we got that press release of Sole (Tim Holland). We respect it and we only post the original Sole announcement!

Sole:
February 9th, 2010 -- Today, with a heavy heart I end 11+ years of working with anticon. In the early days of the label, anticon was a pet project of mine, a life-long dream. We fulfilled the dream of a collectively run record label and put out many great records and stood as an image of defiance against the music industry. Those memories, I will always have and be proud of. Sadly, those times are gone, and I need to live in the present as I prepare for the future.

Leaving the company was not an easy decision, but it was made necessary by a number of factors. Upon returning to the states from a 2-year exile in Spain, I found myself increasingly at odds with the business end of anticon and began doing more DIY work via Soleone.org. Running my own website and taking a more hands on approach with my art has always brought me great satisfaction and it is what I am choosing to return to. There are no ill feelings between myself and members of anticon. I will continue to work with many of the artists and will always love them as brothers and consider them allies. This is a decision to change the way my music will be exploited and adapt to shifting paradigms.

We created anticon as a response to what was going on at the time in the music industry - the indy boom of the late 90’s. There were still a viable music industry then and people bought records. That’s how we built up our empire. The music industry isn’t just dying, but what it means to be a recording artist is changing. Technology is making everything cheap, and cheapening everything it touches. Soon the old ways of selling records will be a distant memory, along with magazines, working musicians and employed blue-collar dads. It’s not a time to cry about the recession, or urge people to go to their local mom and pops and pick up the new sole & skyrider LP. Technology is working its magic, and instead of being a passenger on its ship, I have decided to plot a new course for myself.

The very fact that I have thrived in this environment still sometimes is a surprise to me. I’m 32 today. I put out my first vinyl when I was 16. For me its always been about ethics & passion, doing what felt right in my core and acting on that, whether or not it was the popular or conventionally wise thing to do.

From now on now all my releases will be made available @ Soleone.org via my new label Black Canyon Records and exclusively distributed worldwide via Revolver USA. There is an email newsletter list ton Soleone.org, if you wish to be kept in the loop on my releases/updates that will be the best place.

Peace

Audio: Sole - Everey Day Im Hustlin - Mp3

Hey there,
This is Brigid from Totem Pole PR. I'm spreading the word about something that Rap Ohne Lizenz readers might be interested in.Listen to a track off of Sole's free mixtape Nuclear Winter:

Download Sole - Everey Day Im Hustlin - Mp3

Piece together beats taken from the likes of Kanye's "Heartless", Soulja Boy's "Turn My Swag On" and Rick Ross' "Every Day I'm Hustlin", and a wide critique of social, political and world issues. Add Sole's distinctive rap style and voice, and what have you? It's Nuclear Winter, Sole's first in an upcoming series of mixtapes. On it, he makes a plea to our president and he covers the evil side of the PR game, the state of health care and gentrification. Nuclear Winter features Sole rapping over guilty pleasure pop music beats with backing raps done expertly by Jared Paul, Solillaquists of Sound, Astronautalis, Ceschi Ramos, & Bleubird among others. "Similar to the folk music tradition, where songs are passed down and adapted over years, nuclear winter doesn't waste any time on the analogue methods; last weeks problems, last months hit, have become today's epic poem on modernity. This is Sole at his most bombastic, his most political, he pulls no punches, and manages to pull off one of his most listenable, fun & surprising releases of all time."

Please post any of this and encourage your readers to download the free/donation-based mixtape and read the detailed bio at soleone.org Thank you for supporting independent music.

Meiner Meinung ein eher ungelungenes Album für einen "Sole" dieser Klasse.Aber ich will den Anticon-Fans nichts vorenthalten.Track nr.6 "Mow us Down" ist mein Anspieltipp.

Anticon - Bracken's Autumn Podcast

anticon's waking moments and later lives

anticon's artist collective came together in early 1998 as a loose group of longtime friends and near-strangers bound by an abiding love of both underground rap's freewheeling poetics and the break-digging and collage aesthetics of traditional hip-hop. The name 'anticon' was chosen by its first true believers, sole (Tim Holland) and pedestrian (James Brandon Best), for two reasons: pedestrian wanted a name that expressed a certain enthusiasm for the contrary and the challenging in art, and sole wanted a term that didn't have any associations, a name that could be endowed with fresh meanings.
And when jel (Jeffrey Logan), doseone (Adam Drucker) and alias (Brendon Whitney) lent their distinctive energies to the recording of the Deep Puddle Dynamics album in the summer of '98--a recording experience that was damn near holy in its intensity--anticon at once became a thing unto itself. The qualities apparent in the Deep Puddle Dynamics album--its accent on personal sincerity coupled with its unbothered spirit of experimentation- were further amplified by the addition of odd nosdam (David Madson) and why? (Yoni Wolf), who both dropped out of art school to migrate westward and join the rest of the collective in the Bay Area.
The eighth contributor to anticon, Baillie Parker, is the collective's compass in a sometimes shadowy and always morally ambiguous world of business. Besides its primary function of releasing projects produced by the members of the ownership-collective, the label proudly continues to add artists to its family.

Sole & The Skyrider Band Live at The Middle East

With some fairness, Sole's musical arc to this point might be described as a series of battle raps whose range of targets has gradually widened. His early work, beginning with his demo of 1992 (which included such hits as "Cops Ain't Shit") was deeply beholden to the New York rap of that era, Lord Finesse most especially. After all, his first album
